Western Carolina Women's Golf Ties For Tournament Title
Jansson and Schisler tie for Individual Champion
WAYNESVILLE, N.C. - The second round of the 11th-Annual Great Smokies Intercollegiate, presented by the Wolf Creek Tree Farm and Nursery of Tuckasegee at the Waynesville Inn - Golf Resort and Spa, and hosted by Western Carolina women's golf, was cancelled due to heavy rains in the Western North Carolina area. The Catamounts and Elon University were named Co-Tournament Champions, shooting a team combined 286 in the first round.
Due to the shortened tournament, there were was also a four-way tie for the Individual Champion. Western Carolina's Malin Jansson and Tiffany Schisler, playing as an individual, tied with Elon's Tara McFadden and William & Mary's Carolina Sweet, each shooting a 69, for the top honors.
William & Mary shot a team score of 288 and earned the overall runner-up title. Runners-up individually were William & Mary's Morgan Stepanek and UAB's Lindsay Taylor.
All-tournament selections included Western Carolina's Desiree Karlsson, SCAD's Katrina Ruest, St. Leo's Anna Riss and Elon's Kelsey Johnson and Diana Davis.
Western Carolina will return to action on September 24-27 at the Sea Trails Intercollegiate at Sunset Beach, N.C.
Elon, McFadden Share Tournament Title
WAYNESVILLE, N.C. -- The second and final round of the 11th Annual Great Smokies Intercollegiate was cancelled due to heavy rains in the area. The Elon Phoenix and host Western Carolina Catamounts were declared the co-champions after each squad carded a first round total of 286 on Saturday from the Waynesville Inn ? Golf Resort and Spa. Elon's Tara McFadden was one of four co-individual winners with a first round score of 69.
McFadden shared the individual title with Western's Malin Jansson and Tiffany Schisler as well William & Mary's Carolina Sweet.
William & Mary finished as the tournament runner-up with a round of 288 on Saturday.
All-tournament honors went to Elon's Kelsey Johnson (72) and Diana Davis (72)as well as Western's Desiree Karlsson, Savannah College of Art and Design's Katrina Ruest and St. Leo's Anna Riss.
The Phoenix will return to the links next weekend as it hosts the Sea Trail Intercollegiate at Sunset Beach, N.C.
Nova Southeastern Wins Rain-Shortened Lady Paladin Invitational
Greenville, S.C. -- Nova Southeastern claimed the team title at the 38th Lady Paladin Invitational after heavy rains caused the final round to be halted due to unplayable course conditions on Sunday at the par-72, 6,199-yard Furman University Golf Course.
The cancellation of the third round gave the Sharks, leaders after Saturday’s second round, a four-stroke victory over second place Campbell. Furman claimed third place and Stetson took fourth with East Tennessee State, East Carolina, UNC Greensboro, Kennesaw State, UNC Wilmington and Florida International rounding out the top 10.
Nova Southeastern’s Sandra Changkija (75-72=147) took individual medalists honors at three-over par. Furman’s Stefanie Kenoyer (76-73=149) and Campbell’s Mary Mattson (77-72=149) tied for second place at five-over par.
Furman returns to the course October 4-5, at the Eat-A-Peach Invitational in Macon, Ga.
Spartans finish seventh at rain-shortened Lady Paladin Invitational
GREENVILLE, S.C. - The final round of the 38th Annual Lady Paladin Invitational was cut short on Sunday due to heavy rains making the course unplayable at the Furman University Golf Course.
Due to Sunday’s round not being able to be completed, the final results reverted back to the standings after the completion of the second round on Saturday.
The Spartans finished the tournament in a tie for seventh with Kennesaw State after a two-round score of 627.
Annelie Wiemenhog was the top finisher for the Spartans after shooting a 147 over the first two rounds to finish in a tie for 20th with fellow teammate Ana Lucia Martinez.
The Spartans return to action next weekend as they host the UNCG Starmount Fall Classic. The tournament will run from Sunday through Tuesday at the Starmount Country Club beginning at 9 a.m. each day.

Bulldog Golf concludes Great Smokies Intercollegiate After One Round
WAYNESVILLE, N.C. - The Citadel Golf team finished 21st after just one day of tournament action at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate Tournament. Hosted by Southern Conference foe Western Carolina, the tournament ended competition with round two being cancelled due to heavy rains.
The Bulldogs concluded the modified tournament with a 326 (+38) on a par 72 course. Sophomore Alanna-Jean Keith led The Citadel, shooting a 78 finishing tied at 56th place, while classmate Bree Baumgartner, tied 70th overall, shot a 79. Juniors Christine Clark and Sheri Rockefeller shot an 82 and 87 respectively, along with senior Natalie Flores' 89 to wrap up the team scoring.
Conference opponents, Elon and Western Carolina captured the Co-Tournament title with a combined score of 286 each. Due to the condensed tournament there was a four-way tie for the individual title. Each shooting a 69 was Elon's Tara McFadden, Carolina Sweet of William and Mary, and Western Carolina's Malin Jansson and Tiffany Schisler.

GREENVILLE, S.C. --- Heavy rains caused the final round of the Lady Paladin Invitational to be halted Sunday due to unplayable course conditions at the par-72, 6,199-yard Furman University Golf Course. All scores and standings were reverted back to Saturday's finish. Samford placed 13th, while senior Katelyn Stanier finished tied for 11th.
"I'm very proud of how our team performed out there today," said Samford head coach Woodie Eubanks. "They all battled the rain and the weather and we were playing very well. We had already gained eight positions in the standings, but then the course was deemed unplayable. All in all, I was pleased with how we played this weekend in our season opener."

Wofford Women’s Golf Competes in Lady Paladin Invitational
GREENVILLE, S.C. ? The Wofford women’s golf team competed in its first tournament of the 2009-10 season at the Lady Paladin Invitational at the par-72, 6,199-yard Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C.
The Terriers finished 15th at the 38th Lady Paladin Invitational after heavy rains caused the final round to be halted due to unplayable course conditions on Sunday.
Sophomore Sarah Hurt led the Terriers with a two-round, 36-hole score of 156 to finish tied for 20th. Hurt, who shot a 79 in the first round, followed that up with a five-over-par 77 in the second and final round.
Junior Alex Rankin finished tied for 69th after shooting an 82-82?164 in the rain-shortened tournament. Rankin was followed by freshman Tarah Taylor, who registered an 85-81?166 in her first collegiate competition. Junior Meredith Few and senior Sarah Herbert rounded out the Terrier contingent with scores of 86-84?170 and 88-89?170, respectively.
As a team, the Terriers shot a 332 in the first round, then improved by eight strokes to record a 324 in the second round. Wofford finished ahead of both Mercer University and Rutgers University in its first tournament of the 2009-10 season.
