College of Charleston 4, Coastal Carolina 3
MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - Four separate College of Charleston men's soccer players netted goals, as the Cougars staved off a furious comeback by Coastal Carolina to capture a 4-3 victory in front of 1,122 at Patriots Point Soccer Stadium on Tuesday night.
With the win, Charleston improved to 1-0 on the year, while Coastal Carolina fell to 0-1. The Cougars return to action on Friday, Sept. 4 when they host Air Force in the NIKE/Aaron Olitsky Memorial Soccer Classic.
"In the first half, we were very focused and we did a terrific job on both sides of the field," said head coach Ralph Lundy. "You have to give Coastal a lot of credit for not giving up after being down 3-0. I thought we lost our focus, but regardless if it's 4-0 or 4-3, it's a win and it's a great way to start the season."
Charleston got on the scoreboard five minutes into the contest, as Sean Flatley scored the first goal of the Cougar season off a Jake Helmig corner. Steven Nagy then made the score 2-0 with a goal in the 37th minute off a Zach Prince assist, scoring from three yards in front of the net.

Phelps, however, took the deflection and scored. Phelps was given another penalty kick three minutes later and was successful, making the score 3-2.
In the 75th minute, however, John Bello put the game out of Coastal Carolina's reach with a goal off a deflection by Prince. Phelps would add his third goal of the night in the 78th minute, but Charleston would hang on over the final 12 minute to take the win.
Overall, the Cougars outshot the Chanticleers 18-8. Hankins made two saves in goal to preserve the win.

High Point 1, Elon 0
ELON, N.C. -- Despite dominating the attacking end of the field for the majority of the game, the Elon men's soccer team dropped it season-opener, 1-0, to the visiting High Point Panthers in front of a rowdy crowd at Rudd Field on Tuesday evening. Elon (0-1) outshot the Panthers, 20-11, but High Point brothers Karo Okiomah and Fejiro Okiomah teamed up for what proved to be the ultimate game-winner in the 49th minute of action.
Fejiro Okiomah slipped a ball through defenders and found his brother at the top corner of the 18-yard box. Karo Okiomah took a quick dribble and rocketed a shot over the outstretched arms of Phoenix keeper Clint Irwin into the far corner of the net. It was Karo Okiomah's first goal of the season.

Freshman Chris Thomas and senior Justin Wyatt pounded at the Panther back line. High Point defenders cleared three balls off the goal line, keeping Elon off the scoreboard. With under two minutes to go in regulation, Panther keeper Michael Chesler punched a stop over the crossbar after Wyatt blistered a shot from the top of the box. High Point staved off consecutive Elon corner kicks in the final minute of play to earn the victory.
"I thought tonight was a tremendous atmosphere, a great college game," commented Elon head coach Darren Powell. "I want to thank the Elon and High Point supporters for creating a great event. We are disappointed with the score, but High Point played very well and got a well-earned victory. We now have to focus on our preparation for Friday night when we host Charlotte."
With over 1400 fans in attendance, the crowd was the largest ever to watch a game at Rudd Field. Phoenix supporters were out in full force, but High Point brought three busloads of Panther fans to cheer on its team.
