SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Wofford women's basketball coach Edgar I. Farmer, Jr. has announced the schedule for the 2009-10 season. The schedule includes road games against Georgetown, Clemson and Wake Forest along with a full slate of Southern Conference matchups.
"2009-10 presents a challenging schedule for our team," commented head coach Edgar I. Farmer, Jr. "Several new faces give our team a new look, and we plan to open a new chapter for the Wofford women's basketball program."
Wofford will play 20 league games this season. The Terriers will open and close the conference series against Western Carolina, with a visit to the Catamounts on November 20 and a home matchup on February 27. The team will have home-and-home contests with the nine other league schools as well.
The Terriers tip off the season on November 13 with a trip to Campbell, followed by a tilt at UNC Wilmington on November 15. The team's first home game will be November 18 against Norfolk State, followed by travel to five different states as the Terriers hit the road for nine consecutive road games. The team will travel from Cullowhee, N.C. to take on Western Carolina on November 20 to neighboring Greenville, S.C. to challenge the Furman Paladins on January 5, while facing Georgetown, Gardner-Webb, Samford, Chattanooga, Davidson, Wake Forest and Clemson in between.
"The non-conference schedule should be a springboard for us to an always-challenging Southern Conference schedule," said Farmer. "We will be traveling a lot during the early part of the season, and we hope the experience will bring the team together and help us build an identity as we get into league play."
Wofford will return home on January 8 to host UNC Greensboro as the Southern Conference schedule gets into full swing. The Terriers will play 11 of their last 16 games at home, hosting non-conference opponent Southern Virginia in addition to Southern Conference opponents. The regular season concludes on February 27 against Western Carolina.
The Southern Conference Tournament is scheduled to begin on March 4 and will take place in Charlotte, N.C.
