CofC's Twohig Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? College of Charleston’s Francis Twohig has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for all games played September 8-14.  Twohig helped the Cougars move to 5-0 on the season with wins over North Florida (3-0) and Florida Gulf Coast (2-1) in the Diadora/Spinx Invitational in Greenville, S.C.  Twohig becomes the second consecutive Cougar to win the award after teammate John Bello was honored last week.

Twohig came off the bench and scored the golden goal in overtime against Florida Gulf Coast Sunday afternoon.  The St. Simmons Island, Ga., native corralled a rebound and found the back of the net in the ninth minute of overtime to give CofC the win.  It was the first collegiate goal for the freshman.  He also picked up an assist on George Khoury’s goal in the 49th minute which gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead.

The Cougars travel to Pennsylvania this week to take on two Patriot League opponents.  CofC will visit Lehigh Friday night before traveling to Lewisburg, Pa., to take on Bucknell Sunday afternoon.

Other top performers this week were Appalachian State’s Arie Muniz, Davidson’s Alex Caskey, Elon’s Steven Kinney, Furman’s Debola Ogunseye, Georgia Southern’s Jon Cox, UNC Greensboro’s Matt Foxx and Wofford’s Nick Schuermann.
