Lady Mocs Take 36-Hole Lead Heading into Final Round

PRIMM, Nev..---It was an impressive day for the Chattanooga women’s golf team as it moved into first place at the inaugural Golfweek Conference Challenge at the Primm Valley Casinos Resort Desert Course. For the second straight day the Lady Mocs scored the second low round to move past Oklahoma State, which was ranked No. 4 in the preseason Golf World/Nike Coaches’ Poll.
Chattanooga shot a six-over par 294 to stand at 14-over par 590. The Lady Mocs lead Cal by two shots at 592 and Oklahoma State and Pepperdine by three at 593. Pepperdine is ranked No. 13 in the coaches’ poll, while Cal is at No. 19.
Sophomore Maria Salinas led the Lady Mocs with an even-par 72, which tied for the fourth lowest round of the day. She is tied for ninth through 36 holes at 147 (+3).
Junior Christine Wolf continued her fine play with 15 pars and a birdie to shoot 73 (+1). She is tied for second overall at even-par 144. She trails individual leader Caroline Hedwall of Oklahoma State by four shots (140/-4).
Emma de Groot and Maria Juliana Loza rounded out the counting scores with a 74 and 75, respectively. Thirteenth overall, de Groot is at four-over par 148 and has played level-par golf over her last 30 holes. Loza is tied for 25th at seven-over par 151.
Kayla Stewart’s first two rounds were the drop scores shooting 81 and 80. She is tied for 68th at 161.
The tourney concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday. Stewart leads off for the Lady Mocs at 12:40 p.m. (EDT) followed by Loza, de Groot, Salinas and Wolf. Chattanooga is paired with Cal and Pepperdine.
NOTES:
>Chattanooga played with Oklahoma State and Ohio State. The Lady Mocs topped Okie State by four strokes and the Buckeyes by six.
>The Lady Mocs carded just five birdies after recording 12 in round one. Salinas had the high total for round two with two, while de Groot, Loza and Wolf had one each. Wolf has six to lead the Lady Mocs through 36 holes.
>The Lady Mocs had 68 pars to raise their two-day total to 120 led by Salinas with 27. Wolf had the low total on the second day with 15.
>Chattanooga played par or better on 73 of 90 holes with Salinas and Wolf scoring par or better on 16 holes each. The Lady Mocs scored par or better on 81.1 percent of their holes on Sunday. In round one, UTC posted 64 par or better holes, 71.1%. For the tournament, Chattanooga has played par or better on 76.1 percent of its holes (137 of 180).
>Chattanooga on the front nine: +5 (+5/round one & E/two). Back Nine: +9 (+3/one & +6/two). Wolf is one-under par on the back nine and one over on the front, while de Groot has played minus one on the front.
>The par-four sixth hole was the Lady Mocs favorite going two-under par today with two of the five birdies and three pars. UTC recorded five pars on holes two, four, seven, eight, 11, 16 and 18. The Lady Mocs played the par-for 17th at one-under par from the counting score with Maju Loza’s birdie.

Weimenhog’s final round 72 helps her to 15th place at Cougar Classic, UNCG to 13th place as a team
HANAHAN, S.C. ? Annelie Weimenhog fired a final round 72 to finish 15th and help UNC Greensboro to a 13th place finish to open the 2009-10 season at the Cougar Classic played at Yeaman’s Hall.
Weimenhog, who tied her career low with a 69 in Sunday morning’s opening round, had a steady even-par round as she recorded 16 pars, one birdie and one bogey to record UNCG’s low round of the day. Weimenhog, a senior from Kattarp, Sweden, wound up with a tournament total of 217.
The Spartans carded a final round 304 as a team to finish the tournament at 905. Georgia won the team title with a score of 850, seven shots better than Florida State. North Carolina was third at 869.
The Bulldogs’ Marta Silva Zamora won the individual title with a final score of 208. She carded a final round 70 for her third sub-par round of the tourney, finishing one shot better than Florida State’s Lacey Agnew.
UNCG freshman Courtney Taylor was the next-best scorer for the Spartans. The Gastonia, N.C. native tied for 39th place in her collegiate debut, finishing with a 54-hole score of 224 (76-72-76).
The Spartans return to action on Friday when they open play at The Lady Paladin Classic in Greenville, S.C.

Georgia Claims 2009 Duramed Cougar Classic
Charleston, S.C. - Georgia shot an 850, breaking its own tournament record of 858, to claim the 2009 Duramed Women's Golf Cougar Classic held Sept. 13-14 at Yeamans Hall Golf Club in Charleston, S.C. The Bulldogs finished 14-under par and seven strokes ahead of Florida State. The College of Charleston finished 10th with an 891 after firing a 305 in the third round.
Georgia's Marta Silva Zamora won individual medalist honors after firing a 70 in the third round to finish with a 208. She beat out Florida State's Lacey Agnew by one stroke.
Leigh Whittaker (Baden-Baden, Germany) led the Cougars with a three-round total of 218 for a tie at 16th. Kathy Boehm (Poing, Germany) finished tied for 34th with a 223 and tied for 39th with a 224 was Emily Rapp (Simpsonville, S.C.).
Ainhoa Nogales (Pozuelo de Alarcon, Spain) tied for 62nd with a 231 and Vanessa Koechli (Greer, S.C.) tied for 66th with a 233. Anna Martin competed as an individual and finished 82nd with a 239.
Charleston next competes at the Lady Northern Invitational Sept. 26-27 in Madison, Wisc.

Furman Finishes Fifth, Kenoyer Claims Third At Duramed Cougar Classic
Charleston, S.C. -- Furman junior Stefanie Kenoyer carded a final round 73 to finish with a share of third place at four-under par and help the Paladins to a fifth place showing at the season-opening Duramed Cougar Classic at the par-72 Yeamans Hall Golf Club in Charleston, S.C., on Monday.
Kenoyer (69-70-73=212) struggled through the first 15 holes, but posted birdies at No. 15, 16 and 18 to finish at one-over for the day. Junior Jackie Hilea (71-70-74=215) also recorded a pair of late birdies to rally for a 74 and a ninth place finish at one-under for the 54-hole event.
Georgia (280-283-287=850), who led by 12 strokes entering Monday’s final round, compiled a one-under 287 to cruise to a seven-stroke victory over second place Florida State (292-283-282=857). North Carolina (288-290-291=867) finished third with Tennessee (294-289-289=872) fourth and Furman in fifth. Wisconsin, Vanderbilt, Texas, Maryland and College of Charleston rounded out the top 10 in an 18-team Cougar Classic field that included nine 2009 NCAA Tournament teams and four teams that finished last season ranked in the top 25.
Marta Silva Zamora (67-71-70=208) of Georgia fired a final round 70 to overtake Lacey Agnew (71-65-73=209) of Florida State and claim individual medalist honors. Agnew finished in second just three strokes ahead of Kenoyer and Emilie Burger of Georgia.
Paladin freshman Laura Wearn (72-75-73=220) joined Kenoyer and Hilea with a top 25 finish after carding a one-over 73 on Monday in her first collegiate tournament.
