GSU's Sanford Earns Second Player of the Week Award

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Bethany Sanford, a sophomore outside hitter for Georgia Southern, has been named the Southern Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, as announced by the league office today. It is the second time in three weeks she has won the award. 

The Avondale, Ariz. native posted double-doubles in all three of the Eagles' matches this weekend at the Bash in the 'Boro in Statesboro, Ga. She recorded 10 digs and a career-high 24 kills against Coastal Carolina, good for her 19th career double-double. She also posted a .333 hitting percentage against the Chanticleers.

Sanford led the Eagles in kills against Coastal Carolina, Wake Forest and Auburn, bringing her three-game tournament total to 59. In Georgia Southern's 3-2 loss to Auburn, Sanford recorded the 20th double-double of her career with 18 kills and 15 digs. For her efforts she was named to the All-Tournament team at the Bash at the 'Boro.

Coming up for Sanford and the Eagles is a road match against Charleston Southern on Wednesday. Georgia Southern then travels to Rock Hill, S.C., on Friday for the Wingate Inn Classic, where they will face James Madison, Winthrop and Gardner-Webb.

Also nominated were Appalachian State's Maja Jechorek, College of Charleston's Ginny Phillips, The Citadel's Jessica Maas, UNC Greensboro's Catherine Hanners, Samford's Sheriden Stangohr, Chattanooga's Paula Passmore, Western Carolina's Katie Hennessey and Wofford's Shanna Hughes.
