SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Bethany Sanford of Georgia Southern was selected as the SoCon Volleyball Player of the Week for August 31, the Southern Conference office announced today.

A sophomore outside hitter, Sanford led the Eagles in kills in their three matches Friday and Saturday. She posted 37 kills for the weekend and had a hitting percentage of .364. Against Troy, Sanford posted a double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs.

A native of Avondale, Ariz., Sanford was named MVP of the Holiday Inn Invitational where the Eagles went 3-0. Behind her efforts, Georgia Southern defeated Presbyterian 3-0, Stetson 3-0 and Troy 3-1.

Next up for Sanford and the Eagles is the Colorado State Classic September 3-5 in Fort Collins, Colo. Georgia Southern will face host Colorado State, as well as Texas-Arlington and Ohio State

Also nominated were Appalachian State's Kasey Sauls, College of Charleston's Emily Sawin, The Citadel's Tatum Jestila,  Elon's Traci Stewart, Furman's Alexis Shaffer, UNC Greensboro's Catherine Hanners, Samford's Hillary Fountain, and Chattanooga's Courtney Barnes.
