Greenville, S.C. -- Furman’s Stefanie Kenoyer, a rising junior and 2009 U.S. Women’s Open qualifier, will join incoming freshmen Alexa Rancourt and Julia Thead to give the Paladins three participants in the 2009 United States Women’s Amateur, scheduled for August 3-9, at the Old Warson Country Club in St. Louis, Mo.

A two-time Southern Conference individual medalist and the 2009 Southern Conference Player of the Year, Kenoyer fired a second round 71 to miss the cut by just one stroke at last month’s U.S. Open.  The Lighthouse Point, Fla., native received an exemption to the U.S. Amateur after qualifying for the U.S. Open.

Rancourt, a native of South Portland, Maine, qualified for the U.S. Amateur by shooting a 76 and grabbing the last spot in a four-hole playoff at Charles River Country Club in Newton Centre, Mass.  This past week she captured her second consecutive Maine Women’s Amateur title winning the tournament by 23 strokes.

Thead, a product of Poway, Calif., played in the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship July 20-25, at Trump National Golf Club and will head to St. Louis with her teammates to play in her first U.S. Women’s Amateur.  She qualified in Kenmore, Wash., at Inglewood Golf Club after also firing a 76 and securing the final spot at that site in a playoff.

The U.S. Amateur begins with 18 holes of stroke play on both Monday and Tuesday.  Rancourt will tee-off on Monday from the No.1 tee at 7:53 a.m. while Kenoyer and Thead are set to begin their rounds at 2:09 p.m. from No. 1 and No. 10, respectively.  After the 36 holes, the top 64 golfers will advance to the match play portion of the tournament which concludes with a 36-hole final on August 9.
