Greenville, S.C. - Former Bulldog Chris McGuiness has been promoted to the Greenville Drive of the South Atlantic League, the Class-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.

The Red Sox 13th round selection was batting  .263 with 16 doubles, six home runs and 34 RBI in 46 games at first base with the Lowell Spinners of the NY-Penn League. McGuiness was selected as a NY-Penn League All-Star earlier this month. The former Bulldog set a Spinners franchise record with six straight games with an extra-base hit, part of a 13-game hitting streak from July 17-30.

McGuiness was promoted after last night's 8-6 Lowell victory over Auburn.

Minor League Update of former Citadel Bulldogs:

Wes Wrenn, right handed-pitcher for the Brooklyn Cyclones (Class-A short season New York-Penn League) is 2-0 with a 3.11 ERA. He has made 10 appearances and made five starts this season. As a starter, Wrenn boasts a 2-0 record with a 2.30 ERA. The former Bulldog had 31 strikeouts in 37 2/3 innings pitched and had earned a save on the year. Wrenn was selected in the 35th round by the New York Mets.

Matt Crim, left-handed pitcher for the Danville Braves (Rookie Appalachian League), is 9-0 on the season with a 2.89 ERA. The nine wins are the most in franchise history. He has started eight of his 10 appearances this season and struck out 41 in 56 innings while walking only seven. Left-handers are batting a minuscule .084 against the southpaw. Crim was selected in the 21st round by the Atlanta Braves in the 2009 Draft.

Former Bulldog Jon Ellis (2002-2004) is currently 7-3 with a 4.50 ERA for the Portland Beavers (AAA affiliate of the San Diego Padres). He has made 10 appearances so far this season (five starts) with 47 strikeouts in 66 innings pitched. He leads the team with seven victories.
