The Bulldogs open the season on Nov. 13 at home against Jacksonville State

 

2009-10 Women's Basketball Schedule

 

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Games at Maryland and Mississippi State and a tournament at Virginia highlight the 2009-10 Samford women's basketball schedule, released by head coach Mike Morris on Thursday.

 

The Bulldogs open the season on Nov. 13 at home against in-state rival Jacksonville State. Samford will also take part in the UAB Thanksgiving Classic on Nov. 27 and 28 at UAB's Bartow Arena.

 

"Hopefully, playing teams from the power conferences like the ACC and SEC will prepare us for a tough conference season," Morris said. "Opening the season at home against Jacksonville State and being a part of the UAB Thanksgiving Classic will create some local interest in women's college basketball."

 

After opening up at home against JSU, the Bulldogs will then go on the road for games at Evansville (Nov. 15), McNeese State (Nov. 21) and Maryland (Nov. 24).

 

Following the UAB Thanksgiving Classic, Samford opens play in the Southern Conference with three home games against Chattanooga (Nov. 30), Furman (Dec. 3) and Wofford (Dec. 5).

 

Samford then travels to Starkville, Miss., to take on the SEC's Mississippi State Bulldogs on Dec. 14. Samford returns to SoCon play with road games at Elon (Dec. 19) and UNC Greensboro (Dec. 21).

 

Samford wraps up the 2009 portion of its schedule by participating in the Marriott Cavalier Classic, hosted by Virginia. The tournament is scheduled for Dec. 28 and 29 in Charlottesville, Va.

 

The Bulldogs open the New Year with home SoCon games against Georgia Southern (Jan. 2) and College of Charleston (Jan. 4). Samford then goes on the road for league games at Davidson (Jan. 9) and Appalachian State (Jan. 11).

 

After returning home for a game against Western Carolina on Jan. 18, the Bulldogs go back on the road for their next two games, at Wofford on Jan. 23 and Furman on Jan. 25.

 

Samford plays host to conference foes UNC Greensboro on Jan. 30 and Elon on Feb. 1. The Bulldogs then play on the road at Georgia Southern on Feb. 6 and at College of Charleston on Feb. 8.

 

Samford plays its final two home games of the season against Davidson on Feb. 13 and Appalachian State on Feb. 15. The Bulldogs wrap up the regular season with road games against Western Carolina on Feb. 20 and Chattanooga on Feb. 27.

 

The Southern Conference Women's Basketball Tournament is scheduled for Mar. 4-8 in Charlotte, N.C.
