Florence, S.C. ? The Bulldog soccer team fell, 1-0 to Francis Marion in an exhibition match on Tuesday afternoon at FMU Soccer Field.

It was tough match for both teams as The Citadel’s defense held the Patriots scoreless for 86 minutes. Francis Marion’s Angela Salem picked up a goal five yards from the net, just before the end of regulation time.

Senior Nikki Mares led the Bulldogs with two shots with one on goal while sophomore Amy Loughran recorded one shot on goal. The Patriots outshot The Citadel 15-3 but sophomores Laura Serafino and Whitney Nave tallied three saves each at goalie.

“Defensively we were very sound,” states head coach Bob Winch. “We did not give them many quality looks but we needed to make better passing decisions throughout game. I thought the girls spoke positively and worked hard in their running.”
