CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- Former Chattanooga forward Nicchaeus Doaks is going overseas to continue his basketball playing career signing with Bordeaux of the 18-team French Pro B League.  Doaks is currently in France preparing for the season.

“It’s very exciting,” said Head Coach John Shulman.  “We had Nicchaeus for four years and to see his hard work and dedication lead to this opportunity is very gratifying.  Next to seeing him receive his degree in May, I could not be happier for him.

“Not everybody gets the chance to travel abroad,” added Shulman.  “Along with it, he gets to do what he loves to do.  That’s a pretty nice combination.”

The 6’7” forward from Trenton, Tenn., is just adding to his many highlights from 2009.  Not only did he help lead the Mocs to a Southern Conference Championship and berth in the NCAA Tournament, Doaks became the Mocs all-time leading rebounder of the Division I era while also setting a new season mark along with a national television appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon with his fellow seniors.

Doaks averaged 13.7 points and 8.6 rebounds per game in 2008-09.  His ended his career with 1,406 points and 818 rebounds.  His 131 games played is a school record as well and he ranked fourth all-time in scoring.

Nicchaeus joins former teammate Kevin Bridgewaters in signing a pro contract this summer.  Bridgewaters is in the Czech Republic playing for BK Brno in the town of Brno.

Johnny Taylor, who led the Mocs to the Sweet 16 in 1997 and was an NBA First Round Draft selection, is on the roster of Al Manama in Bahrain.  Mindaugas Katelynas, the 2005 Southern Conference Tournament MVP, is in the Euroleague playing with AJ Milan and went to camp for the 2009 Lithuanian National Team.  Other recent Mocs exports include Chris Brown (Germany), Jerice Crouch (France), Keddric Mays (Chile), Alphonso Pugh (Israel) and Marcus Watts (Finland).
