ELON, N.C. ? The Elon Phoenix women’s golf team will participate in four tournaments this fall as announced by head coach Chris Dockrill on Thursday.  The first tournament will tee off on September 18 while the final round of the fall will be held on October 27.  Of the four contests, including the annual Elon/Sea Trails Intercollegiate, Southern Conference members will host three.

Elon begins the season with a three-day event at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate, which will be hosted by Western Carolina on September 18-20 in Waynesville, N.C.  In this tournament a year ago, the Phoenix placed in a tie for sixth out of 22 teams.

The second tournament will be the Elon/Sea Trails Intercollegiate in Sunset Beach, N.C.  Held from September 25-27, the Elon/Sea Trails Intercollegiate will feature 15 teams in 2009.  The Phoenix collected the tournament title in this event last season.

Up next for Dockrill’s squad is the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate hosted by East Carolina in Greenville, N.C. on October 19-20.  Of the 20 programs that competed in this event in 2008, Elon finished fifth.

Elon’s final fall tournament will be held on October 25-27 in Kiawah, S.C.  The Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate will be hosted by College of Charleston.  The Phoenix also participated in this event a year ago, posting a 20th-place finish among the 43 teams.
