Elon Volleyball Honored For Academic Excellence by the AVCA

LEXINGTON, Ky. ? For the second straight year, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has recognized the Elon volleyball team for academic excellence. Elon, whose squad boasted a 3.446 grade point average last year, joins 71 Division I programs in receiving this honor.

“These players amaze me with their desire to excel in all aspects of their lives,” Elon head volleyball coach Mary Tendler said. “To earn the most wins since transitioning to Division I and to go above and beyond the 3.30 minimum GPA to achieve this award is no small task. I appreciate all the time and effort they have put in to represent Elon University in such a positive way.”

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team GPA on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

Led by Sarah Schermerhorn, who was one of six Southern Conference student-athletes who carried a 4.0 GPA during the fall semester, the squad also placed seven members on the fall academic all-conference team.
