ROSWELL, Ga.---University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior Kayla Stewart took her first step toward a national title as she joined five others in qualifying at Horseshoe Bend Country Club at Roswell, Ga., Monday.  Stewart, a native of Cookeville, Tenn., shot two-over par 74 to enter as the sixth qualifier (results here:  http://www.gsga.org/layout9.asp?id=436&page=46920).

Stewart is coming off an impressive showing at the Golf Capital of Tennessee Women's Open over the weekend at Stonehenge Golf Course in Fairfield Glade, Tenn.  She tied for 15th at 228, 12-over par, which ranked second among amateurs to Betsie Johnson (226).

The U.S. Women’s Amateur is August 3-9 at Old Warson Country Club in St. Louis, Mo.  Stewart is the first Lady Mocs golfer to qualify for the Women’s Am since the program was re-started in 2007.
