SANFORD, Fla. --- Two members of the Samford baseball team were selected to participate in the Florida Collegiate Summer League (FCSL) All-Star game when the league announced the teams on Monday. Junior outfielders Trey Hayes and David Schulze, both playing for the Sanford River Rats, will participate in the game.

The All-Star game will be held Wednesday, July 15, at Sanford Memorial Stadium. The festivities will begin with a home run derby at 6 p.m., and the All-Star game at 7 p.m.

For the season, Schulze is leading the River Rats with a .294 batting average with two home runs and 20 RBI. He also leads the team in stolen bases with 15, just one ahead of Hayes. Schulze leads the FCSL in hits (32), runs scored (24) and stolen bases (15).

Schulze also ranks second in the league in total bases (46), and he is tied for second in doubles (8). In addition to appearing in the All-Star game, Schulze will also compete in the home run derby.

Hayes ranks second on the River Rats and second in the FCSL in stolen bases with 14. Hayes leads the FCSL in doubles with nine, and he is tied with Schulze for the league lead in runs scored with 24.

Hayes is second among every-day players on the River Rats in slugging percentage at .423. He also has two home runs and 11 RBI on the season.
