Furman's Kenoyer Misses U.S. Open Cut by One Stroke

Furman’s Kenoyer Posts Low Amateur Rond On Friday, Misses Cut By One Stroke At U.S. Women’s Open

Bethlehem, Pa. -- Furman University’s Stefanie Kenoyer (81-71=152) posted a second round even-par 71, the low round of the day by an amateur, to finish at 10-over par and miss the cut by one stroke at the 2009 United States Women’s Open at the Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa., on Friday afternoon.

“I’m thrilled with this weekend and had a lot of fun,” said Kenoyer, following Friday’s second round.  “I’m proud of the way I played today considering only about 10 players shot par or better, but can’t help but think of several strokes that I left on the course because I’m missing the cut by just one stroke.  It was great for my first time in an LPGA tournament.”

Kenoyer, a rising junior, recovered from a 10-over 81 on Thursday to notch two birdies and only two bogeys while recording the seventh best score of the day against the top players in the world.  She finished in a tie for 73rd place in a field of 156 players at the most prestigious tournament in women’s golf.

A two-time Southern Conference individual medalist and the 2009 SoCon Player of the Year, Kenoyer qualified for the U.S. Open by advancing through local and sectional qualifying earlier this summer.  The Lighthouse Point, Fla., product finished in a tie with LPGA professional Diana D’Alessio and ahead of LPGA regulars such as Se Ri Pak, Meg Mallon, Rosie Jones and Birdie Kim.
