ELON, N.C. ? Elon senior football standout Terrell Hudgins has been selected to the 2009 Sports Network Preseason Football Championship Subdivision All-America Team. The 6-2, 234-pound wide receiver was among the 13 players named to the offensive first-team.
During his junior season, Hudgins rewrote the Elon and Southern Conference record books, pulling in 86 catches for 1,116 yards and 10 touchdowns to become the school and conference all-time career leader in receptions (272), receiving yards (3,617) and touchdown catches (36). In 2008, he finished second in the SoCon and fourth in the FCS with 7.2 catches per game and second in the league and 15th in the nation with 93.0 receiving yards per contest.
“Terrell has had an incredibly productive career to this point and is well deserving of the preseason recognition,” said Phoenix head coach Pete Lembo. “It is my hope that he takes advantage of his senior year to become an even greater asset to our program both on and off the field.”
The two-time first-team All-Southern Conference honoree earned first-team All-America recognition by the Walter Camp Football Foundation and second-team All-America accolades by the Associated Press last year. Hudgins has racked up more than 1,000 receiving yards in each of his three seasons and set a new SoCon career mark with 18 games with at least 100 yards receiving. He is the school record holder for receptions in a game (16), receiving yards in a season (1,474 in 2007), touchdown receptions in a game (4) and touchdown receptions in a season (18).
Hudgins joins seven other Southern Conference student-athletes named to the three preseason teams, including six from Appalachian State and one from The Citadel.
Elon will open its season on September 5 at 7 p.m. when it hosts Davidson College at Rhodes Stadium.
