Elon Baseball Finishes 2009 Among Top-25

Baseball America Top 25

NCBWA Top 30

ELON, N.C. -- With the 2009 College World Series complete, the final national rankings have been released and the Elon Phoenix baseball squad finished ranked in two national polls.  The Phoenix, which finished the season at 41-18, appeared at No. 24 in the final Baseball America top-25 and at No. 27 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association top-30.  Elon was also among those receiving votes in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Top-25.

This is the first time at the NCAA Division I level that an Elon baseball team finished the year among the nation's top 25 programs.  The Phoenix peaked at No. 22 earlier this spring.

LSU sits atop all the polls after a 2-1 series win over Texas in the College World Series.

The Phoenix won its second straight Southern Conference regular season title and has now appeared in the NCAA Regionals for two consecutive years.  Elon has a total of four NCAA Regionals appearances in its 10 seasons at the Division I level.  Head coach Mike Kennedy's squad compiled back-to-back 40+ win seasons for the first time in school history.

The Baseball America poll also features 2009 Elon opponents North Carolina (No. 6), Southern Miss (No. 11), Clemson (No. 16), East Carolina (No. 17) and Georgia Tech (No. 20).

Appearing in the NCBWA poll were Phoenix foes North Carolina (No. 4), Southern Miss (No. 8), Clemson (No. 15), East Carolina (No. 16), Georgia Tech (No. 19) and Coastal Carolina (No. 21).

In 2009, Elon played two of the eight teams which advanced to the College World Series (North Carolina and Southern Miss).
