It’s Championship Sunday and one team will take home the 2009 SoCon Baseball Championship title and the NCAA Automatic Bid. Top-seeded Elon will take on second-seeded Georgia Southern at 2 p.m. from Fluor Field at the West End in Greenville, SC.

 

The game will be tape-delay on SportSouth beginning at 7:30 p.m. Sunday night. SoCon play-by-play announcer Tom Werme and color analyst Nick Belmonte will make the call.

 

NOTE: Sunday’s championship game will NOT be on SoCon.TV due to television broadcast.

HOW THEY GOT HERE

The top two seeds advanced to the championship game but it wasn’t an easy road. Georgia Southern comes into the game undefeated in the tournament, picking up wins over Davidson, Appalachian State and Furman. Top-seeded Elon got past Furman and Western Carolina before meeting The Citadel in the Bracket One semifinal. The Bulldogs took the first game, forcing an “if necessary” game, which Elon won by holding off a comeback by The Citadel, including four homeruns in two innings.
