SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Samford middle-distance runner Hillary Neal has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week while Appalachian State pole vaulter Shea Snow has been named Field Athlete of the Week for all meets from April 2-8, the conference office announced Thursday. Voting is conducted for the league’s women’s outdoor track and field head coaches.
Neal ran a conference-leading and NCAA Regional qualifying time of 2:09.68 in the 800-meters. She also ran 57.30 on one leg of the 4x400-meter relay team that ran a season-best time of 3:50.40. The sophomore has now won the award two straight weeks.
Snow won the pole vault at the Beaches vs. Mountains meet hosted by Western Carolina this past weekend with a jump of 12-1.5, ranking her first in the SoCon and second in ASU school history.
Also nominated for this week’s track award were Appalachian State’s Jennifer Povick, College of Charleston’s Kristen Wolfe and Western Carolina’s Janet Carothers.
