SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Furman junior Jessica Preeg has been named Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches from March 30-April 5, the league office announced Wednesday. She becomes the fourth different Paladin to win the weekly award.  Preeg finished 3-0 in both singles and doubles competition last week as the Paladins went 3-0 with wins over Appalachian State (7-0), Elon (7-0) and UNC Greensboro (5-2).  The Player of the Week award is voted on by the league’s sports information directors.

Preeg went 3-0 at No. 3 singles last week, scoring a 6-1, 6-2 win over ASU’s Lindsay King before topping Elon’s Elisa Simonetti (6-7, 7-5, 10-7).  Preeg trailed the second set 5-0 before rallying to top Simonetti.  She also knocked off UNC Greensboro’s Arielle VonStrolley, 6-2, 6-3.  Preeg has now won her last four singles matches to improve to 10-9 this season.  She teamed with Brooke Mosteller to earn an 8-5 win over Appalachian State.  Preeg was paired with Susan Bitetti in wins over Elon (8-2) and UNCG (8-2). 

Also nominated for this week’s award was College of Charleston’s Anna Lee Evans, Davidson’s Virginia Berry, Elon’s Anna Milian, Georgia Southern’s Melanie Rolle and Samford’s Andrie Meiring.
