Kentucky Wins Inaugural Lady Mocs Intercollegiate
LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga.---The University of Kentucky women’s golf team captured the inaugural Lady Mocs Intercollegiate by a single shot over host Chattanooga in the weather-shortened event. Due to a wintry mix of snow, wind and cold temperatures, the event was cut from 54 holes to 18 at the Lookout Mountain Golf Club on Monday.
The Wildcats shot 325 (+37) led by medalist Mallory Blackwelder. Blackwelder shot a five-over par 77 to win by two shots over Chattanooga’s Maria Salinas and Kayla Stewart and UK’s Ashlee Rose. Stewart played as an individual for the event. The Lady Mocs shot 326 while the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) finished third at 340.
The Lookout Mountain Golf Club, combined with the windy, wintry weather, was stingy to scoring. Temperatures never got out of the low 40’s while the winds regularly gusted over 25 mph. The 57 players averaged 87.53 strokes and produced just 52 birdies.
UTSA’s Allie Jordan led the field with four on the day as the Roadrunners had a team-high 10 overall. Chattanooga led all teams with 35 pars led by Salinas’ six.
The Lady Mocs placed three in the top five led by Salinas (79). Emma de Groot and Christine Wolf tied for fifth at 81.
Maria Juliana Loza tied for 17th with an 85, while Moa Duf came in tied for 22nd with an 86. Katie Taylor also played as an individual tying for 22nd as well at 86.
Chattanooga is off until the Southern Conference Championship April 19-21 in Hilton Head, S.C. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played at Moss Creek Golf Club.
Augusta State Leads the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate; Western Carolina Stands in Third Place
Morganton, N.C. - Battling unseasonably cool temperatures and very windy conditions, Augusta State posted an opening round score of 297 to lead the 2009 Mimosa Hills Women's Intercollegiate by 12 strokes over second-place Elon at the par 72, 5,869-yard Mimosa Hills Golf and Country Club. Western Carolina is three-strokes in arrears of the second-place Phoenix after shooting 312 collectively on Monday.
Co-host Appalachian State (319) and Charleston Southern (326) rounded out the top five teams through the first of two rounds.
Augusta State freshman Julia Stalbro posted the only under-par score during the opening round with a one-under, 71, to lead junior teammate Tamara Luccioli (72) by a stroke. Stalbro recorded the lone eagle of the first round, while Luccioli carded a tournament-leading five birdies.
Western Carolina sophomore Josefine Sundh and Elon senior Danielle Mills are two-strokes off the pace in a two-way tie for third at one-over, 73. Rounding out the top five were Jordan Krueter from Appalachian State and Augusta State's Emilie Geury in a two-way deadlock for fifth at 76.
Sundh led the tournament in par 3 scoring (2.75) in pacing the Catamounts through the opening 18 holes. The Kumla, Sweden native also tallied four birdies, second amongst the 53-golfer field. Junior Desiree Karlsson posted a six-over, 78, to stand tied for eighth giving WCU two inside the top 10.
Freshman Ashley Shinn fought the wind for an even 80 to stand tied for 15th, while classmates Rachel Nelson and Blaire Minter each fired 81 to be amidst a tie for 18th overall.
Tuesday's second round shotgun start has been moved back to 10:30 am due to the threat of inclement weather overnight. Weather forecasts for the second round include periods of mixed precipitation, colder temperatures and more wind, which was sustained around 10-15 mph on Monday with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Women's Golf Sits In Fourth After Day One at Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate
MORGANTON, N.C. - Jordan Kreuter shot a team-best 76 as Appalachian State University golf sits in fourth place after the first day of competition at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate.
Kreuter is tied for fifth after the first day while Brooke DeHart is seventh with a 77. Kerri Dice shot an 81 and is tied for 18th while Mary Kate Bowman and Emily McGonagle shot an 85.
The tournament finished up tomorrow as Kreuter will lead the Mountaineers' off, beginning her round at 10:30 a.m.
Furman Golf In Ninth After 36 Holes At Sun Trust Lady Gator Invitational
Gainesville, Fla. -- Sophomore Stefanie Kenoyer posted back-to-back rounds of 76 to help Furman (307-316=623) into a share of ninth place after the first day of the Sun Trust Lady Gator Invitational at the par-70 Mark Bostick Golf Course at the University of Florida.
Kenoyer (76-76=152), a native of Lighthouse Point, Fla., holds a share of 14th place after 36 holes of play. Fellow sophomore Jackie Hilea (73-81=154), who posted a team-best three-over 73 in the opening round, is in 22nd following round two.
The Paladins (+63), tied with South Florida, are 20 stokes back of second round co-leaders Duke and Alabama entering the final round. Florida State’s Whitney Wenglasz (74-70=144) and Alabama’s Kathleen Ekey (73-71=144) hold a one stroke lead over Duke’s Amanda Blumenherst for individual honors.
The tournament’s final round is set to begin with a shotgun start on Sunday at 8:30 a.m.

Women’s Golf Tenth at Shortened UTC Classic
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. ? The Wofford women’s golf team struggled in the wintry weather at the UTC Lady Mocs Classic, finishing 10th after the tournament was shortened to 18 holes.
Sarah Hurt led the Terriers with a score of 88, good for a tie for 33rd overall. Alex Rankin and Meredith Few tied for 33rd, carding 89 in the single round. Senior Erin Wells shot a 94, while Sarah Herbert rounded out the Terrier team with a 95.

Augusta State leads the 10-team competition after carding an 18-hole score of 297 on Monday. Southern Conference-rivals Elon (309) and Western Carolina (312) were placed second and third, respectively.

Samford’s Sarah Butts tallied an 18-hole score of 86 (43-43) on Monday, while senior Maria Troche rounded out the scoring with a first-round mark of 88 (41-47).

The Citadel Golf Finishes Day One in 10th Place at Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate
Morganton, N.C. ? The Citadel Golf finished round one of the Mimosa Hills Women’s Intercollegiate in 10th place with a total of 371 (+83) on Monday at the par 72, 5,869-yard course in cool and windy conditions in Morganton, N.C.
Augusta State leads the 10-team competition with a day one score of 297 for a 12-stroke lead over second place Elon. Co-host Western Carolina rounds out the top three just three strokes behind the Phoenix. Co-host Appalachian State and Charleston Southern recorded a 319 and 326 for fourth and fifth places, respectively.
Leading the Bulldogs on Monday was sophomore Christine Clark who shot an 89 to tie for 46th place. Freshmen golfers Alanna-Jean Keith and Bree Baumgartner followed with a 91 and 92 for 49th and 50th places, respectively. Seniors Brittany Nagel and Kasey Owens rounded out the Bulldogs with a 99 and 107.
