SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Chattanooga third baseman Toni Hutchison has been named the Southern Conference Softball Player of the Week and Georgia Southern pitcher Brianna Streetmon has been named Pitcher of the Week for all games from March 30-April 5, the league office announced Monday. The weekly awards are voted on by the conference softball sports information directors.
Hutchison batted .381 over a five-game stretch in helping the Lady Mocs to a 4-1 record during the week. The senior hit 10 RBIs and recorded two doubles without a strikeout. In Sunday’s nine-inning game with Western Carolina, the Madison, Tenn., native clubbed a grand slam in the ninth to put UTC up 8-4 to seal the victory.
Streetmon went 2-0 on the week in a pair of league contests against Samford. The sophomore had a perfect 0.00 ERA in 14 innings of work. Both games ended in a four-hit shutout for the Winder, Ga., native.
Also nominated for this week’s player of the week award were College of Charleston’s Kristie Shifflett, Samford’s Robyn Harmon, Elon’s Patti Webber, UNC Greensboro’s Alex Emeterio, Georgia Southern’s Jenny Side and Appalachian State’s Sarah Rappe.
Also nominated for this week’s pitcher of the week award were Chattanooga’s Brooke Loudermilk, UNC Greensboro’s Amber Harrell, Appalachian State’s Teri Fister, Samford’s Stephanie Royall, College of Charleston’s Alex Datko and Elon’s Erin O’Shea.
