SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Western Carolina sprinter Felicia Paulding has been named Southern Conference Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week while Georgia Southern high jumper Melanie Trumbo has been named Field Athlete of the Week for all meets from April 16-22, the conference office announced Thursday. Athlete of the Week is voted on by the league’s head outdoor track and field coaches.

 

Paulding won the 200-meter dash at the Western Carolina Invitational with an NCAA regional qualifying time of 23.88. She also ran a leg of the winning 4x100 relay. The award is Paulding’s second of the season.

 

Trumbo won the high jump at the Auburn War Eagle Invitational with a jump of 5-8.75, an NCAA regional qualifying height. In addition to her PR in the high jump she also had a personal best throw in the javelin with at toss of 131-5 which ranks her first in the SoCon javelin. The award is Trumbo’s second of the season.

 

Also nominated for this week’s track award were Samford’s Hillary Neal and Elon’s Amy Salek.

 

Also nominated for this week’s field award were Elon’s Veronica Day, Western Carolina’s Jessie Wilson and Appalachian State’s Whitney Smyre.
