HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. ? 2008 Southern Conference Champion Furman’s Stefanie Kenoyer shot a one-over par 73 to jump from a sixth place to first entering the final round of the 2009 SoCon Women’s Golf Championship held at Moss Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head Island, S.C. The Paladins (+35) increased their overall lead to 21 strokes on the strength of all five golfers being in the top 15 of the individual standings, including four in the top six.
Kenoyer used three birdies, four bogies and 11 pars on the day to take the lead.
Day one leader Jackie Hilea dropped into a tie for second after shooting a seven-over 79. Chattanooga’s Maria Salinas fired a three-over 75 to jump from sixth into a tie with Hilea. Elon’s Danielle Mills (79, +7) fell to fourth place while Western Carolina’s Josefine Sundh (78, +6) jumped from ninth to fifth to round out the top five.
Chattanooga (+56) and the College of Charleston (+61) proved to be the big movers on day two. The Lady Mocs shot a team-total 313 to move from a tie for fourth to alone in second while the Cougars equaled UTC’s 313 to jump from a tie for sixth to third place by a stroke over Elon (+62).
Following the Phoenix are UNC Greensboro (+65), Samford (+71), Wofford (+77), Western Carolina (+80), Appalachian State (+89) and The Citadel (+113).
The final round of the championship begins Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. ET with results updated every three holes at www.golfstatresults.com.
