SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Furman distance runner Patrick Morgan has been named Southern Conference Track Athlete of the Week, while Appalachian State high jumper Darius Purcell has been named Field Athlete of the Week for all meets from March 26-31, the conference office announced Thursday. Voting is conducted by the league’s head men’s outdoor track and field coaches.

Morgan won the 5000-meter run at the LSU Relays with a time of 15:18.19.

Purcell won the high jump at South Carolina's Weems Baskins Invitational with a jump of 6-10.75. The jump ranks him sixth all-time at ASU and also qualified him for the NCAA East Region Championships and USATF Jr. Championships.

Also nominated for the track athlete award were Samford’s Cavan Corcoran and Western Carolina’s Benny Davis.

Also nominated for the field athlete award were Samford’s Patrick Wells and Western Carolina’s Matt Evans.
