Hazeltine, Uys Win Women?s Track and Field Awards

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Chattanooga track athlete Anneli Uys has been named Southern Conference Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week while Appalachian State high jumper Rebecca Hazeltine has been named Field Athlete of the Week for all meets from April 9-15, the conference office announced Thursday.

 

Uys ran a league-best 4:27.18 and earned an NCAA region qualification with a fifth-place finish in the 1,500-meter run at the University of Tennessee Sea Ray Relays this past weekend. The junior also was a member of the Lady Mocs 4x800-meter relay team that finished second, besting a 12-year-old school record by more than seven seconds with a time of 8:59.70, and the 4x1500-meter relay team that finished second behind the host Lady Vols who had two world record holders on their team, and 18 seconds faster than the third-place team from Eastern Kentucky.

 

Hazeltine, a sophomore, is now third in Mountaineers’ history in the high jump after she placed third at the Sea Ray Relays with an NCAA Regional qualifying jump of 5-8.75.

 

Also nominated for this week’s track award was Samford’s Hillary Neal.
