SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? UNC Greensboro distance runner Joey Thompson has been named this week’s Southern Conference Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week while Western Carolina javelin thrower Darron Dotson has been named this week’s Field Athlete of the Week for all meets from April 9-15, the conference office announced Thursday.

 

Thompson broke the UNCG school record in the 1500-meter run last weekend at the UNC Invitational with a time of 3:54.75. The time currently places him third in the SoCon and qualifies the freshman for the USATF Junior National Championships.

 

Dotson won the open javelin competition at the Sea Ray Relays with a toss of 199-6, a personal best. The freshman currently ranks second in the SoCon behind teammate Matt Evans.

 

Also nominated for this week’s track award were Wofford’s Elias Conits and Davidson’s Alex Hoyt.

 

Also nominated for this week’s field award were Wofford’s Carter Blanche and Appalachian State’s Matt Boruff.
