SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Chattanooga track and field performer Anneli Uys has been named Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from April 8-14, the league office announced Wednesday.
Uys claims a 3.787 GPA. This past weekend, she ran a league-best 4:27.18 and earned an NCAA region qualification with a fifth-place finish in the 1,500-meter run at the University of Tennessee Sea Ray Relays. The junior also was a member of the Lady Mocs 4x800-meter relay team that finished second, besting a 12-year-old school record by more than seven seconds with a time of 8:59.70. The Somerville, Australia, native also was on the 4x1500-meter relay team that finished second behind the host Lady Vols who had two world record holders on their team, and 18 seconds faster than the third-place team from Eastern Kentucky.
Also nominated for this week’s award were Furman softball player Morgan Hughey, Elon track and field athlete Andrea March, Samford track and field performer Hillary Neal, Davidson tennis player Michele Fanney, Western Carolina baseball player Corey Martin, Appalachian State track and field performer Rebecca Hazeltine, Georgia Southern baseball player Ty Wright and UNC Greensboro baseball player Rob Gilliam.
