College of Charleston 5, The Citadel 2

 

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's tennis team knocked off cross town rival The Citadel this afternoon, 5-2 in Southern Conference action at the Earle Tennis Center.

 

With the win, the Cougars improved to 8-13, 5-5 in the Southern Conference, while The Citadel fell to 8-12, 1-7 in the conference. The Cougars return to action on Saturday when they travel to Charlotte for a 2 p.m. start.

 

Charleston got off to a solid start in doubles play taking two of three from the Bulldogs, then captured the match after winning four of the six singles matches contested.

 

At number one singles Omer Abramovich had a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-0, 2-1 (10-3) win over Yufo Sutantio, while Mickael Trintignac was a three-set winner as well, knocking off Martin King 1-6, 6-0, 6-3.

 

In the number five spot, Mickael Boyer was a straight set winner (6-1, 6-1) over Derek Dickey, while at number six singles Joe Nicolazzi rounded out the day for the Cougars with yet another three-set win (2-6, 6-3, 6-2) over  Frank Larkin.

 

 

Chattanooga 6, Tennessee Wesleyan 1

 

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Chattanooga men’s tennis team posted a 6-1 win over Tennessee Wesleyan Tuesday afternoon. 

 

The Mocs started their match sweeping the doubles matches from the Bulldogs. Seniors Pavel Vostrikov and Peter Sauska teamed up for their 10th win of the season defeating Eric Chastain and Cody Gaby 8-2. Alex Butnarcuic and Dakota Pate posted an 8-5 win over Guilherme Cervezio and Giovanni Santos at the No. 2 spot while Gordon Rudell and Rick van de Bovenkamp defeated Neal Baldwin and Tanner Stancil 8-6 at No. 3.

 

In singles action, the Mocs won five of the six matches. Sauska started it off claiming a 6-4, 6-0 win over Gaby at No. 1. At No. 2, Vostrikov defeated Santos 6-1, 6-0 and van de Bovenkamp earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 over Chastain. Dakota Pate defeated Baldwin 7-6, 6-2 at the No. 5 spot while Sam Parfitt rounded out the match for the Mocs with a 6-0, 6-2 win at the No. 6 spot over George Pannell.

 

The Bulldogs lone win on the day was at the No. 3 spot. Cervezio defeated Butnarcuic 6-2, 6-4. The Mocs will close out the regular season this Saturday at home against the Georgia Southern Eagles. Chattanooga will honor seniors Peter Sauska and Pavel Vostrikov prior to the Noon match.
