Hilton Head, S.C. - Freshman Blaire Minter claimed the second individual medalist honors of her rookie campaign, pacing Western Carolina women's golf to the team title at the Low Country Intercollegiate held at the par 72, 5,853-yard Moss Creek Resort North Course.

 

Minter also won her first-ever collegiate event, taking top honors at the season-opening Draper Valley Intercollegiate back in September. It is also the Catamounts second team championship after garnering the Great Smokies Intercollegiate

 

Western Carolina carded consecutive rounds of 316 and 317 for two-day total of 633 to edge co-host Wofford by six strokes. Charleston Southern was third with a 643, while Longwood (645) and Morehead State (666) rounded out the top five finishers.

 

Minter fired rounds of 73 and 75 to win by five strokes over Wofford's Alex Rankin. Junior Desiree Karlsson posted her first top five finish of the season, advancing one spot to finish tied for fourth with rounds of 78 and 79. Her countryman, sophomore Josefine Sundh, carded her third top 10 of the year, finishing in a tie for 10th after trimming four strokes off her opening round score to shot 78 on the day.

 

Rounding out Western's scorers were freshman Rachel Nelson (t-23rd) and sophomore Elin Mickelsson (t-33rd).

 

Western Carolina returns to action on March 29-31 at the John Kirk Intercollegiate, hosted by Georgia State at the Eagle's Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Ga.

 

 

 

Wofford Women's Golf Finishes Second in Lowcountry Intercollegiate

 

HILTON HEAD, S.C. ? The Wofford women’s golf team beat its first-round score by seven strokes to finish second at the Lowcountry Intercollegiate, held at Moss Creek on Hilton Head Island.

The team shot a second round score of 316 to improve to second place in the 12-team tournament co-hosted by Wofford and Western Carolina. The Catamounts claimed the tournament championship with a team score of 633 over two rounds, edging out Wofford’s 639 by six strokes.

Sophomore Alex Rankin again led the Terriers with a second-round card of 76 to claim second place individually. Rankin was closely followed by teammate Sarah Herbert, who finished third with a total score of 156 after shooting a 79 on day two.

Senior Erin Wells also finished in the top 15 with a score of 163, placing her 14th in the field of 60. Sarah Hurt and Meredith Few rounded out the Terrier team, shooting an 80 and 86 in the second round, respectively.

The Terriers finished ahead of Southern Conference opponents The Citadel and Appalachian State. The women’s golf team will hit the course again on March 23-24 at the UNC Wilmington Lady Seahawk Classic.

 

 

 

The Citadel Golf Finishes 10th as Keith Claims Fourth Place Overall in Low Country Intercollegiate

 

Hilton Head, S.C. ? Freshman golfer Alanna-Jean Keith led the Bulldogs to a 10th place finish in the final round of the Low Country Intercollegiate on Sunday at Moss Creek Plantation in Hilton Head, S.C. The tournament was hosted by Southern Conference’s Western Carolina and Wofford and consisted of 12 teams.

 

The Citadel finished with a two-day total of 682 after combining for 344 on Sunday. Keith, who shot her best performance of the season and tied for second on Saturday with a 77, returned Sunday to fire an 80 in round two. Her two-day total of 157 was good enough to tie for fourth place overall with Charleston Southern’s Olivia Higgins, Longwood’s Kameron Carter and Brooke Mallory, and Western Carolina’s Desiree Karlsson. 

 

Blaire Minter led Western Carolina to the tournament win after claiming the number one spot among 60 golfers. Minter combined for a two-round total of 148 after firing 73 in round one and 75 on Sunday in round two. The Catamounts finished the tournament in first place with a two-day total of 633. Wofford and Charleston Southern rounded out the top three with totals of 639 and 643, respectively.

 

Freshman Bree Baumgartner moved up seven places to tie for 29th place after improving four strokes in round two for a two-day total of 170. Bulldogs Christine Clark (176), Kasey Owens (179) and Brittany Nagel (190) finished tied for 45th, 53rd and 57th places, respectively.

Kreuter Leads Women's Golf at Low Country Intercollegiate

 

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Jordan Kreuter tied for 29th overall for Appalachian State University women's golf, Kreuter shot a team best 170 over the weekend at the Low Country Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C.

 

Kerri Dice and Kreuter led ASU after day one as each shot an 88. Mary Kate Bowman was six shots behind with a 94. Kreuter and Bowman each shot an 82 on Sunday, as Dice stayed consistent with another 88.

 

Dice and Bowman shot a 176 to tied for 45th. Freshman Amy Harris shot a 197 to finish in 59th while Ginny Thompson had a two day total of 202.
