SoCon Wrestling Championship Begins Today

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The 2009 Southern Conference Wrestling Championship is set to begin this today, March 7 in Charleston, S.C., at The Citadel’s McAlister Field House.

 

The championship will begin at 11:00 a.m. ET with first-round matches, with the finals slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. ET and the awards ceremony to follow. The championship will be the first time The Citadel has hosted the event since 1990.

 

Chattanooga is looking for its fifth-straight and 24th overall SoCon Championship, after winning its fifth straight regular-season championship already this season.

 

Defending champions returning are Chattanooga’s Cody Cleveland (141-lb.) and Seth Garvin (157-lb.) and VMI’s Josh Wine (Hwt.)

 

The conference was awarded 11 automatic qualifiers to the NCAA Championships. The conference champion at each weight class as well as a second wrestler from the 141-lb. weight class will all qualify automatically for the championships, which will be held in St. Louis, Mo., March 19-21.

The consolation semifinals, semifinals, consolation finals, finals and awards ceremony will be videostreamed live on SoCon.TV and can be watched with a subscription.
