SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Chattanooga catcher Brittany Eason and pitcher Kandice Irwin have been named Southern Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for all games from Feb. 23-March 1, the league office announced Wednesday. Voting for the award is done by the conference softball sports information directors.
Eason, a junior, hit two home runs and a triple in the Lady Mocs’ 8-0 victory over Princeton. For the game, the Chattanooga native was 3-for-3 and drove in four runs.
Irwin, a sophomore, threw her second complete-game shutout of the season in the team’s victory over the Tigers. The Knoxville, Tenn., native allowed only three hits, while fanning four batters.
Also nominated for this week’s Player of the Week award were Elon’s Brandi Jones, Georgia Southern’s Megen Smith, UNC Greensboro’s Emily Akiyama, Western Carolina’s Mollie Fowler, Samford’s Aaren Fisher, College of Charleston’s Kristie Shifflet and Appalachian State’s Ashley Gaston.
Also nominated for this week’s Pitcher of the Week award were Elon’s Erin O’Shea, Georgia Southern’s Brianna Streetmon, College of Charleston’s Terri Mesko and Western Carolina’s Katie King.
