SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The 2009 Southern Conference Wrestling Championship is set to begin this Saturday, March 7 in Charleston, S.C., at The Citadel’s McAlister Field House.
The meet will begin at 11:00 a.m. ET with first-round matches, with the finals slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. ET and the awards ceremony to follow. The championship will be the first time The Citadel has hosted the event since 1990.
Chattanooga is looking for its fifth-straight and 24th overall SoCon Championship, after winning its fifth straight regular-season championship already this season.
Defending champions returning are Chattanooga’s Cody Cleveland (141-lb.) and Seth Garvin (157-lb.) and VMI’s Josh Wine (Hwt.)
The conference was awarded 11 automatic qualifiers to the NCAA Championships. The conference champion at each weight class as well as a second wrestler from the 141-lb. weight class will all qualify automatically for the championships, which will be held in St. Louis, Mo., March 19-21.
Ticket prices for the championship are $15 for adults and $10 for youth and students and can be purchased before the event at the following website.
The consolation semifinals, semifinals, consolation finals, finals and awards ceremony will be videostreamed live on SoCon.TV and can be watched with a subscription.
