Furman
Stockbridge, Ga. -- Freshman Liz Wendt (85-81-74=240) posted a final round two-over 74 to help Furman to a second-place finish on Tuesday at the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate at the 6,074-yard, par-72 Eagle’s Landing Country Club.
Georgia State (297-291-298=886), ranked No. 36 in the latest Golfweek Performance Index, claimed the team title finishing nine strokes ahead of the Paladins while the Panthers’ Sandra Maier (74-70-72=216) and Anna Scott (70-74-73=217) placed first and second, respectively.
The 44th-ranked Paladins (300-290-305=895) edged top 50 programs Chattanooga and East Tennessee State for second place. Sophomore Stefanie Kenoyer (73-69-77=219) finished third at five-over par while fellow Paladin Blair Lamb (73-72-75=220) claimed fourth at six-over.
Furman travels to Gainesville, Fla., to take part in the University of Florida’s Lady Gator Invitational April 6-7, at the Mark Bostick Golf Club.
Chattanooga
STOCKBRIDGE, Ga.---Behind the second-best round of the day, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s golf team moved up to a third-place finish at the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate Tuesday at Eagles Landing Country Club. The Lady Mocs shot a 13-over par 301 to move up from fourth after 36 holes.
The 301 was second to host Georgia State’s 298. GSU won the event with a 22-over par total of 886. Furman came in second at 895, while the Lady Mocs came in third just one stroke back at 896.
Freshman Moa Duf registered her second top 10 of the Spring finishing in sixth at 222 (+6). Duf carded a final round 77 to finish six strokes out of first place.
It was a second top 10 finish for Maria Salinas with a tie for seventh. Salinas had the low round of the day for the Lady Mocs with a one-over par 73. Salinas finished with a 224 (+8) shooting twin 73s after an opening round 78.
Sophomore Emma de Groot tied for 11th shooting nine-over par 225 including a final round 75. Christine Wolf shot a 79 today to tie for 22nd at 228, while Maria Juliana Loza chipped in a 76 (+4) to complete her tourney tied for 50th with a 239.
Kayla Stewart and Katie Taylor played as individuals. Stewart tied for 39th with a 233 after today’s 76, while Taylor finished with an 83 to shoot 254 and a 65th-place finish.
Sandra Maier of Georgia State won individual medalist honors with an even-par 216. Maier shot a 72 in the final round to edge teammate Anna Scott, who shot a 73 (+1) for a total of 217, by a shot.
The Lady Mocs return to action on Monday, April 6, hosting the Lady Mocs Intercollegiate. The 54-hole event feature two rounds of 18 holes on Monday followed by a final 18 holes on Tuesday. It will be played at the Lookout Mountain Golf Club.
Western Carolina
Stockbridge, Ga. - Western Carolina carded its team-best round of 309 on Tuesday, maintaining its position after Monday's opening two rounds to finish 11th overall at the 16th-annual John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate held at the par 72, 6,057-yard Eagle's Landing Country Club. With a three-round score of 937, WCU was four strokes out of 10th place.
Sophomore Josefine Sundh led the way for the Catamounts, placing in a tie for 22nd overall with a three-round score of 228 (75-77-76). Junior Desiree Karlsson, who led Western after the opening two rounds, finished with a 78 on Tuesday to place 32nd overall with a 229.
Rounding out Western Carolina's finishers were freshmen Rachel Nelson (t-50th, 239), Blaire Minter (t-56th, 242) and Ashley Shinn (63rd, 250), who was playing as the Catamounts' fifth seed due to a season-ending injury to junior Elin Mickelsson.
Host Georgia State (886) swept both individual medalist and team championship honors at the three-round event. The Panthers edged Southern Conference foes Furman (895) and Chattanooga (896), which finished second and third, respectively. East Tennessee State (898) was fourth followed by Campbell (905) to round out the top-five finishers.
Sanda Maier edged her Georgia State teammate Anna Scott by a stroke, 216-to-217, to claim individual medalist honors. Furman's Stefanie Kenoyer (219) and Blair Lamb (220) were third and fourth in the standings for the second-place Paladins.
Western Carolina returns to the links on April 5-7 at the Mimosa Hills Women's Intercollegiate, co-hosted by the Catamounts and Appalachian State at the Mimosa Hills Golf and Country Club in Hickory, N.C. Practice rounds will be held Sunday, with the nine-team, 36-hole event teeing off on Monday, April 6.
UNC Greensboro
STOCKBRIDGE, GA ? Sofia Aidemark shot a final round 76 to record a Top 20 finish and help UNC Greensboro to a seventh-place final standing at the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate.
Aidemark finished tied for 16th with her 54-hole score of 226, a season-best and one-shot off her collegiate best. It was her second Top 20 finish this season, bettering her tie for 19th place last fall at the UNCG Starmount Classic. It was also the fifth Top 20 finish of her career.
Georgia State’s Sandra Maier won the individual title with a 54-hole total of even-par 216, one shot better than teammate Anna Scott. The host Panthers also won the team title with a score of 886, nine shots better than Furman and 10 shots better than Chattanooga. UNCG finished up at 920 after a final round score of 308 on Tuesday.
The Spartans return to action on Friday when play begins at the Bryan National Collegiate, co-hosted by UNCG and Wake Forest.
Elon
STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. ? Danielle Mills fashioned an even-par 72 as Elon carded a 311 to end up in ninth place in the 13-team field at the 16th Annual John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate women’s golf tournament Tuesday afternoon on the 6,074-yard Eagle’s Landing Country Club course.
In addition to Mills (Tied-16th place/76-78-72?226), Tara McFadden (Tied-19th place/77-75-75?227), Frederique Bruell (Tied-39th place/77-76-80?233), Lauren Lebak (60th place/82-81-84?247) and Dani Mullin (64th place/81-84-87?252) also represented the Phoenix in the two-day, three-round event. Host Georgia State’s Sandra Maier (216) topped the 68-player field.
Georgia State (886) won the 13-team, 54-hole event, followed by Furman (895), Chattanooga (896), East Tennessee State (898), Campbell (905), Jacksonville State (915), UNC Greensboro (920), Augusta State (927), Elon (932), Maryland (933), Western Carolina (937), James Madison (941) and Miami (DNF).
Entering the final month of the regular season, Mills (third place/74.84 scoring average), Bruell (13th place/76.60 scoring average) and McFadden (14th place/76.72 scoring average) all rank among the 10-team Southern Conference’s top-15 golfers.

Samford
BRASELTON, Ga. - The Samford women's golf team picked up its third-consecutive runner-up finish Tuesday at the second-annual Larry Nelson Invitational hosted by Kennesaw State University at the Chateau Elan Golf Course. The Bulldogs completed the three-round tournament with a final team score of 941 (314-309-318).
Gardner-Webb won the nine-team competition by carding a 54-hole score of 939 (317-304-318). Samford entered Tuesday's final round trailing by two strokes. Both Samford and Gardner-Webb fired identical team scores of 318 to close out the tournament.
Belmont Abbey placed third in the 2009 Larry Nelson Invitational with a three-round total of 951 (323-310-318).
With Samford's runner-up performance Tuesday, the Bulldogs ended their sixth-consecutive tournament with at least a top-three finish. In its eight tournaments this season, Samford has placed in the top five seven times.
The Bulldogs' Sara Hunt earned a second-place finish in the individual standings at the KSU Larry Nelson Invitational.
Samford's talented junior from Columbia, Tenn., carded a third-round score of 77 on Tuesday to finish the two-day competition with a final tally of 226 (75-74-77). Hunt's second-place performance was her second of the 2008-09 campaign. Earlier this season, she tallied a similar runner-up outing at the LDR Investments Collegiate.
Belmont Abbey's Carley Warrington won the three-round tournament Tuesday with a final score of 220 (75-71-74).
Following Hunt's second-place finish, Samford's Heather Arnold placed seventh with a 54-hole score of 237 (78-80-79) and Katelyn Stanier earned a 10th-place performance with a two-day score of 238 (80-78-80). Stanier's top-10 finish was her eighth in nine outings this season.
Rounding out the Bulldogs' final scores Tuesday were Sarah Butts (81-77-82--240), Maria Troche (82-91-84--257) and Kellie O'Connell (92-79-86--257). Butts, Samford's freshman from Carrollton, Ga., earned a tie for 14th place in the individual standings, marking her second-best finish of the 2008-09 campaign.
The Samford women's golf team will next be in action Monday-Tuesday of next week as the Bulldogs compete in the 2009 Western Carolina Invitational to be held in Cullowhee, N.C.
J. RALPH HARGETT MEMORIAL INVITATIONAL
The Citadel
Charlotte, N.C. ? The Citadel Golf team concluded the J. Ralph Hargett Memorial Invitational in 12th place on Tuesday in Charlotte, N.C. The Citadel shot a two-day total of 717 on the par-72, 5,815-yard course at the Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation.
Improving by four strokes, freshman Bree Baumgartner led the Bulldogs again with a second round of 83, combining for a total of 170 and tying for 28th place overall. Freshman Alanna-Jean Keith improved to the No. 2 spot for the Bulldogs after firing an 88 on Tuesday for a 180 and a tie for 43rd place. Sophomore golfer Christine Clark, senior Kasey Owens and sophomore Sheri Rockefeller rounded out the Bulldogs with an 183,184 and 201, respectively.
Pfeiffer won the women’s tournament with a two-day total of 637, led by second place Charlene Reid who shot five over par with a 149 and Brittany Beltran who tied for third-place overall with a 153. Newberry’s Maria Luz Besio claimed the individual tournament title after firing two-under par on Tuesday for a two-day total of 144. Newberry finished in second place and just 13 strokes behind tournament champion Pfeiffer with a 650. Rounding out the top three was UNC-Pembroke with a 660.
The Citadel Golf will be back in action on Sunday, April 5 in the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate. The three-day tournament, hosted by Western Carolina, will be held the Mimosa Hills Golf and Country Club in Morganton, N.C.
