SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? UNC Greensboro’s Orcun Seyrek has been named Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches from March 23-29, the conference office announced Tuesday. Seyrek went 2-0 in both singles and doubles play last week as the Spartans topped Davidson (5-2) and Appalachian State (4-3) in conference action.  The Player of the Week award is voted on by the league’s sports information directors.

Seyrek posted a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Davidson’s Eric Noble at No. 1 singles Saturday afternoon.  Seyrek rallied for a three-set victory over Appalachian State’s Bobby Lake (6-4, 6-7, 6-3) Sunday afternoon. Trailing 3-1 in the match, UNCG rallied to win all three remaining singles matches to claim a 4-3 victory over the Mountaineers. 

Seyrek teamed with Arsel Kumdereli at No. 1 doubles and recorded wins over Davidson’s Eric Noble and Walker Lyons  (8-6) and ASU’s team of Lake and Lee Floyd (8-3).

Also nominated for this week’s award was Appalachian State’s Philip Kloc, Davidson’s Scott Myers, Elon’s Oscar Podlewski and Furman’s Bo Ladyman.
