Radford 5, Appalachian State 2

RADFORD, VA.- Despite its solid play, Appalachian State University men’s tennis could not eek out a win Monday afternoon, as the Mountaineers fell just short to No. 56 Radford, losing 5-2. With the loss the Apps drop to 11-8 on the season, while the Highlanders improve to a stout 14-3.

In doubles action, the duo of Philip Kloc and Alain Humblet got ASU off to a strong start as they handily defeated Stefan Bojic and Igor Ogrizek 8-1. At the number two position, the team of Trent Constance and Peter Jacobs were unable to hang on for a win, as they came up just short falling 8-4. Bobby Lake and Lee Floyd posted a valiant effort at the number one spot, but the no. 50 doubles squad of Martin Sayer and Zack Watson earned the 8-5 win.

Singles play did not get much easier for the Mountaineers as Floyd dropped a tough 6-1, 6-0 decision at the number four spot and Lake lost to No. 120 Sayer in two sets as well, falling 6-2, 6-1.

At the number two spot, Constance was defeated by Ivan Salec, losing in two sets, 6-0, 6-4, along with Alain Humblet falling to his competitor at the number six spot. Jacobs was able to grab a solid win at the number three spot, winning in three hard fought sets, 6-4, 4-6, 10-4 and Kloc continued with his stellar play, as he was victorious in three sets as well.

Appalachian takes a short break, before returning to action Tuesday April 7 to welcome SoCon rival Elon to the ASU Tennis Courts, with the match set to begin at 2:30 p.m.
