Appalachian State 4, Wofford 3

BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's tennis defeated SoCon foe Wofford Friday afternoon in a thriller, winning 4-3 at the Grandfather Mountain Tennis Courts. With the win, the Black and Gold improve to 11-6 on the season and 3-3 in SoCon play, while the Terriers drop to 8-9 and 2-2 in league action. It was the first time Appalachian had defeated Wofford since 2005.

The Apps got the match off to a strong start sweeping through doubles play easily winning each match.

The duo of Trent Constance and Peter Jacobs easily defeated their competition at the number two doubles spot, winning 8-2, while Bobby Lake and Lee Floyd clinched the doubles point for the Mountaineers earning an 8-4 win over Stuart Robertson and Danny Manlow. At the number three spot, Britton Webb and Philip Kloc kept with ASU's dominance, downing their opponents 8-4 as well to keep the Black and Gold spotless in doubles play.

Lake continued with his impressive play as he handily won at the number one position, beating Robertson in two sets 6-1, 6-3. Constance was also victorious at the number three spot, winning in two sets over Scott Collins to put Appalachian up 3-0.

ASU's big advantage would not last for long as Jacobs fell at the number two spot in three tough sets, losing 7-6, 3-6, 6-2 to Manlow and Floyd was also unable to pick up a win falling at the number four flight 6-4, 7-5.

Freshman Philip Kloc came up big for the Mountaineers clinching the win for ASU, as he defeated Donald in three sets, winning 7-5, 2-6 and 7-5 to propel Appalachian to the victory.  Capping off the action, freshman Alain Humblet posted an impressive effort but was unable to notch a win at the six spot, losing in three sets.
