SoCon Announces Women's Outdoor Track and Field Awards

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Western Carolina track athlete Felicia Paulding has been named Southern Conference Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, while Georgia Southern long jumper Demetrise Anthony has been named Field Athlete of the Week for all meets from March 19-25, the league office announced Thursday. Voting is conducted by the league's head outdoor track and field coaches.

 

Paulding, a sophomore, won the 200-meter dash at the Charlotte 49er Classic this past weekend in a time of 24.47. Paulding also ran a wind-aided 11.68 in the prelims of the 100-meter dash to qualify third in the finals. Racing in her home city, Paulding also helped lead the Catamounts’ 4x400-meter relay team to a first-place finish with a time of 3:44.23 and the 4x100-meter relay team to a second-place finish with a time of 46.57.

 

Anthony, a junior won the long jump at the CCU Shamrock Invitational with a leap of 19-3?, the second-best jump of her career and the sixth-best leap in school history.

 

Also nominated for this week’s track award were College of Charleston’s Kristen Wolfe and Appalachian State’s Jennifer Rock.

 

Also nominated for this week’s field award was Appalachian State’s Rebecca Povick.
