SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Western Carolina softball player Mollie Fowler has been named Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from March 18-24, the league office announced Wednesday.
Fowler, a senior, claims a 3.753 GPA in elementary education. The King, N.C., native hit .545 with two homeruns and four RBIs in 11 at-bats on the week. Fowler, a candidate for the Lowe’s Senior Class Award, hit both home runs in a series-clinching win over Georgia Southern on Saturday.
Fowler is the first SoCon softball player to win the award this season.
Also nominated for this week’s award were Davidson women’s tennis player Alison Rauh, UNC Greensboro softball player Lyndsay Mouse, Elon women’s tennis player Hayley Wahl, Georgia Southern baseball player Kevin Bowles, Appalachian State softball player Brittany Gaston and College of Charleston softball player Kristie Woodall.
