Mills Captures Lady Seahawk Classic Title
WALLACE, N.C. ? Elon’s Danielle Mills forged a four-over-par, final-round 76 to claim medalist honors in the 72-player field at the ninth annual UNCW Lady Seahawk Classic women’s golf tournament Tuesday afternoon on the 6,165-yard River Landing Golf Club course.
Paced by the performances of Mills (first place/72-68-76?216) and Frederique Bruell (third place/75-74-74?223), the Phoenix (305-295-309?909) earned a runner-up finish ? six shots behind champion East Tennessee State (300-303-300?903) and seven strokes ahead of East Carolina (296-302-318?916).
Host UNC Wilmington (931) finished in fourth place in the 12-team, 54-hole event, followed by Augusta State (934), UNC Greensboro (934), Maryland (940), James Madison (943), Wofford (952), Longwood (954), Brown (983) and Appalachian State (995).
Mills outdueled East Tennessee State’s Laura Jansone (second place/73-77-72?222) for medalist accolades while Bruell edged out the East Tennessee State duo of Kennie Leigh Eisenho (fourth place/75-76-73?224) and Lucy Gould (fifth place/75-74-76?225) for third-place honors in the two-day, three-round tournament.
Elon also received scorecards from Tara McFadden (tied-ninth place/79-77-74?230), Lauren Lebak (55th place/86-76-85?247) and Virginia Mayer (63rd place/79-86-86?251). The Phoenix’s Kelsey Johnson (tied-47th place/75-86-81?242) competed in the event as an individual.
Elon’s 295 marked the lowest score of the second round while Mills’ two-round score of 140 Monday matched a six-year-old tournament record. Augusta State’s Leah Hart also fired a 36-hole score of 140 in 2003. Mills’ second-round 68 marked the lowest single-round score of the event. Mills and UNCW's Ashley Tait, who posted a second-round 71 Monday, were the lone players to break par in the tournament.
UNCG moves up to fifth on final day of Lady Seahawk Classsic
WALLACE, N.C. ? Sofia Aidemark carded a final round 74 to help UNC Greensboro jump up to a tie for fifth place in Tuesday’s final round of the UNCW Lady Seahawk Classic.
The Spartans finished with three players in the Top 25, led by Aidemark’s 21st place finish at 234. Annelie Weiemhog and Lauren Smith both finished tied for 23rd at 235. Weimenhog shot a final round 79, while Smith carded a final day score of 78 on the par-72, 6,165-yard course at River Landing GC.
Elon’s Danielle Mills held on for the individual title. Entering the day with a five-shot lead, she carded a 76 on Tuesday for a six-shot win over East Tennessee State’s Laura Jansone, who was the only golfer to shoot even-par on Tuesday.
East Tennessee State roared back with a final day score of 300 to win the team title by six shots over Elon. The Bucs had started the day in third place, but logged the best team score of the day to take the title at 903.
Elon finished second at 909 after a final day total of 309, while East Carolina, the leader at the start of the day, was third at 916. UNCG finished tied for fifth at 934, thanks to a 310 on the final day.
UNCG returns to action on April 3 when it co-hosts the Bryan National in Browns Summit, NC.

Wofford Women’s Golf Claims Ninth at UNCW Classic
WILMINGTON, N.C. ? The Wofford women’s golf team finished ninth overall at the UNCW Lady Seahawk Classic, hosted by UNC Wilmington at the River Landing Golf Club.
East Tennessee State overcame a four-stroke deficit to surpass East Carolina to claim the tournament title. The Buccaneers were followed by SoCon school Elon, while day one leader East Carolina fell to third in the final standings.
Senior Erin Wells led the team during the third round, shooting a team-low 76 on Tuesday. Alex Rankin was close behind, recording a 78 on the second day of competition.
For the tournament, sophomore Meredith Few led the team with an average of 78 over three rounds. Few finished tied for 21st individually in the tournament. She was followed by Rankin, who tied for 33rd, Sarah Herbert in 38th, Wells in 47th and Sarah Hurt in 56th.
The team finished ahead of Southern Conference rival Appalachian State who finished 43 strokes behind the Terriers.
The women’s golf team will hit the course again next week as they travel to the Larry Nelson Invitational in Braselton, Ga. March 30-31.
ASU Women’s Golf Finishes 12th at UNC Wilmington’s Lady Eagle Classic
WILMINGTON, N.C. - Jordan Kreuter and Brooke DeHart each shot an 81 on Tuesday as Appalachian State University women’s golf finished in 12th place at UNC Wilmington’s Lady Seahawk Classic.
Altogether, the Mountaineers shot 335 on Tuesday and finished the competition with a team score of 337-323-335=995 (+131), just 12 strokes behind 11th-place Brown University.
Kreuter wrapped up the three-round tournament in 54th place with an 86-78-81=245 (+29). Kerri Dice was right behind at 79-82-87=248 (+32) for 56th place.
DeHart shot a 90-79-81=250 (+34) for 61st in the individual standings, while Mary Kate Bowman carded an 82-84-86=252 (+38) over the two days for 64th place and Amy Harris shot a 100-98-99=297 (+81) for 71st place.
East Tennessee State edged out Elon, 903 to 909 for the team title, while the Phoenix’s Danielle Mills took home the individual trophy at 72-68-76=216 even par. Southern Conference rival UNC Greensboro finished in a tie for fifth place and Wofford finished in ninth.
The Mountaineers return to action on April 4 at the University Cup at Morganton’s Mimosa Hills Golf Club.
