SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Furman’s Andy Juc has been named Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches from March 16-22, the conference office announced Tuesday. Juc went 3-0 in both singles and doubles play last week to earn the honor for the second time this season. The Player of the Week award is voted on by the league’s sports information directors.
The Paladins went 3-0 last week posting wins over Appalachian State (5-2), Davidson (7-0) and Georgia Southern (7-0). Juc, competing at No. 1 singles, ran his record to 10-6 this season with wins over Appalachian State’s Bobby Lake (6-2, 6-2), Davidson’s Eric Noble (6-0, 6-1) and Georgia Southern’s Joris De Weerdt (6-3, 7-6 [1]). Juc has now won four straight matches at the top singles position.
Juc teamed with Bo Ladyman and finished the week 3-0 in doubles play. The Paladins duo won all three of their matches at No. 1 doubles over Appalachian State (9-8), Davidson (8-4) and Georgia Southern (8-4).
Also nominated for this week’s award was The Citadel’s Derek Dickey, Elon’s Philip Nemec, Georgia Southern’s Joris De Weerdt, UNC Greensboro’s Orcun Seyrek, Samford’s Carson Kadi and Wofford’s Tinus Van Wyk.
