Furman Finishes Seventh, Lamb Fifth At Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational
Austin, Texas -- Blair Lamb (73-74-71=218) recorded a final round 71 to claim a share of fifth place and help the Furman women’s golf team (302-310-306=918) to a seventh place finish on Sunday at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational at the par-72 University of Texas Golf Club.
The senior birdied four holes during final round action and carded a one-under 35 on the front nine to notch her best finish of the 2008-09 season. Stefanie Kenoyer (70-75-79=224) finished with a share of 21st place and fellow sophomore Jackie Hilea (81-79-77=237) helped Furman gain two spots as a team with a final round 77.
Maria Hernandez (70-69-71=210) of Purdue posted a one-under 71 on Sunday to claim individual medalist honors and help the Boilermakers (291-287-294=872) to a six-over 294 and a tournament title. Lucy Nunn (70-70-73=213) of Arkansas took second place with Jodi Ewart of New Mexico in third and Maude-Aimee LeBlanc of Purdue in fourth. Lamb finished in a four-way tie for fifth.
The Boilermakers, tied with Arizona State entering the final round, pulled away for a six-stroke victory over the Sun Devils. Arkansas, New Mexico and Duke rounded out the top five while Notre Dame claimed sixth and Furman and Texas A&M tied for seventh place. The 17-team field included 14 of the top 50 teams in the country and 11 of the nation’s top 50 individuals.

Furman will return to action March 30-31, when it travels to Stockbridge, Ga., for the John Kirk/Panther Invitational hosted by Georgia State University.

Lady Mocs Finish 14th at Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational
AUSTIN, Texas---It was not the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s golf team’s day in Texas as it finished 14th at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin. The final round 315 gave UTC a 54-hole total of 930.
The Lady Mocs finished one shot out of a tie for 12th with Tulsa and South Carolina at 929 and eight shots out of the top 10 with No. 13 Vanderbilt and Oklahoma tied at 922 in 10th.
Sophomore Emma de Groot led the Lady Mocs finishing tied for 41st as a final round 77 (+5) totaled her at 232 (+16). Fellow classmate Christine Wolf matched her 77 ending up tied for 50th at 234 (+18).
Freshman Maria Salinas had a seven-over par 79 on Sunday to finish tied for 47th at 233, a stroke in between de Groot and Wolf. Maria Juliana Loza and Moa Duf each shot 82 on the day. Loza tied for 56th at 235, while Duf came in tied for 62nd (238).
For the week, the Lady Mocs had been stronger on holes 1-9, while struggling on 10-18. Through the first 36 holes, Chattanooga shot +9 on 1-9, while shooting +30 on 10-18.
Shotgun starting on holes 10-12, a good start would be a good harbinger for the day. The Lady Mocs had their best 10-18 for the three rounds at plus 12, but shot 15 over on 1-9 to fall into 14th.
No. 14 Purdue was tied with No. 2 Arizona State to start the day, but the Boilermakers were able to claim a six-shot victory over the Sun Devils with a final round 294 to end up at 872. ASU shot an even 300 (+12) to finish at 878, while No. 19 Arkansas came in third eight shots back at 880.
Maria Hernandez made it a clean sweep for Purdue winning medalist honors by three shots over Arkansas’ Lucy Nunn. Hernandez shot a final round 71(-1) for a three-day total of 210 (-6). Nunn’s 73 (+1) gave her a three-under par 213, while New Mexico’s Jodi Ewart finished in third with a one-under par 215.
The Lady Mocs return to the course on March 30-31 in Atlanta, Ga., at the John/Kirk Panther Intercollegiate at Eagles Landing Country Club.
