Mt. Saint Mary’s 10, Western Carolina 5
HONOLULU, Hawaii - Western Carolina (4-8) dropped their final game in Hawaii 10-5 against Mt. Saint Mary's (1-4) in the Consolation game of the Bank of Hawaii Invitational Sunday afternoon held at Rainbow Wahine Stadium. Mount Saint Mary's used a five run top of the sixth inning to defeat the Catamounts 10-5 on Sunday afternoon.
Senior Lauren Ross started and took the loss for Western Carolina dropping her record to 2-3 for the season. Ross allowed 12 hits and four earned runs in 5 1/3 while striking out two Mountaineer's hitters.
The Catamounts had an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning thanks to a two-out suicide squeeze off the bat of Keri Burnside to bring home Mollie Fowler. Mt. Saint Mary's responded putting two runs up to take a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth. The Catamounts again used a two-out RBI single from Chelsea Schaffer to even the score 2-2.
The Mountaineers added five runs in the top half of the sixth inning to take the lead at 7-2.
Western Carolina came crawling back when again with two-outs Schaffer blasted a RBI double followed by Fowler hitting a two-run double to cut the lead to 7-5.
Mt. Saint Mary's added three insurance runs in the seventh to make the final score 10-5. The Catamounts went in order to close the game.
Western Carolina returns after an exciting trip to Honolulu, Hi to take on rival UNC Greensboro in a double-header starting on Saturday March 7.
