Brittney Spencer scored a career-high 20 points in a Mountaineer win

 

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Appalachian State sophomore guard Brittney Spencer has been named the Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week for all games from February 24-28.

 

Spencer scored a game and career-high 20 points against Georgia Southern Saturday afternoon, including 16 points in the second half of play to propel ASU to a 68-59 win over the Eagles. The sophomore went 7-for-8 at the charity stripe and dished out four assists. She also pulled down three rebounds and swiped a pair of steals.

 

Spencer’s play helped ASU defeat Georgia Southern for the first time since January of 2007 and get is seventh Southern Conference win of the season.

 

The player of the week is selected by a vote of the league’s women’s basketball sports information directors.

 

Other top performers during the week were Elon’s Julie Taylor, Samford’s Emily London, Chattanooga’s Jenaya Wade-Fray, Western Carolina’s Emily Clarke, Davidson’s Mercedes Robinson, Georgia Southern’s Jessica Geiger and UNC Greensboro’s Agne Girstautaite.
