SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Elon track athlete Amy Salek and Samford pole vaulter Mary Angela Barron have been named Southern Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for all meets from March 12-18, the conference office announced Thursday. The athlete of the week voting is done by the league’s outdoor track and field head coaches.

Salek won the 400-meter dash at the Coastal Carolina Invitational meet in a school record time of 55.95. 

Barron placed second in the pole vault at the Southern Invitational hosted by Birmingham-Southern Invitational with a jump of 10-11?.

Also nominated for this week’s Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week award was Samford’s Hillary Neal.
