SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The Citadel’s Alberto Diaz has been named Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches from March 9-15, the conference office announced Tuesday. Diaz went 3-1 in both singles and doubles play last week.  The Player of the Week award is voted on by the league’s sports information directors.

The Bulldogs went 3-1 last week posting wins over James Madison (5-2), Case Western (7-0) and Chattanooga (6-1), while falling to Appalachian State (7-0).  Diaz went 3-1 competing at No. 3 singles last week.  He earned a three-set victory over James Madison’s Tommi Nissinen before posting straight-set wins over Case Western’s Rohan Patel and Chattanooga’s Alexandru Butnarcuic. Diaz dropped his only singles contest to Appalachian State’s Peter Jacobs in three sets (4-6, 6-4. 10-6). 

Diaz teamed with Derek Dickey to go 3-1 in doubles play.  The team of Diaz and Dickey picked up wins on No. 2 doubles against Case Western (8-2) and Chattanooga (8-3).  Diaz and Dickey posted a win at third doubles against James Madison (8-3) and suffered their only defeat of the week at No. 2 doubles against Appalachian State (8-5).

Also nominated for this week’s award was College of Charleston’s Mickael Boyer, Davidson’s Eric Noble, Elon’s Philip Nemec, Furman’s Sawyer Duncan, Georgia Southern’s Alain Garrido and Samford’s Oliver Reynolds.
