Furman Finishes 13th, Lamb 11th, At LSU Golf Classic

 

Baton Rouge, La. -- Senior Blair Lamb notched a three-under 69 to claim a share of 11th place and help Furman to a 13th place finish on Sunday at the LSU Golf Classic at the par-72 University Club in Baton Rouge, La.

 

The Flat Rock, N.C., native recorded five birdies in a seven-hole stretch to register a four-under 32 on the front nine.  Lamb (70-76-69=215) finished one-under for the tournament while sophomore Stefanie Kenoyer (73-75-72=220) posted an even par 72 on Sunday to place in a tie for 29th at four-over.

 

Furman (293-305-292=890) recovered from a slow start on Sunday morning to take 13th place with three golfers player their final nine holes at par or better.  Virginia (285-287-284=856) shot a four-under 284 during the final round to hold off Tulane by six strokes and host LSU by 11 to claim the team title. 

 

UVA’s Calle Nielson (67-71-71=209) led the Cavaliers finishing in a three-way tie for first place with South Carolina’s Benedicte Toumpsin (70-71-68=209) and Arkansas’ Lucy Nunn.  Nunn (72-68-69=209) defeated the pair in the second playoff hole to grab individual medalist honors.

CofC Women's Golf 17th at LSU Golf Classic

 

Baton Rouge, La. - Fiona Puyo fired a 70 in the third round and finished tied for 37th to lead the College of Charleston women's golf team to 17th at the LSU Golf Classic at the University Club in Baton Rouge, La.  Virginia won the tournament with a three-day total of 856.  Charleston finished with a 900.

 

Tulane placed second in the event with an 861, while host LSU was third with an 867.

 

Calle Nielson of Virginia, Arkansas' Lucy Nunn and South Carolina's Benedicte Toumpsin tied for first with a 209 each.  Nunn took home individual medalist honors, winning in the second hole of a play-off.

 

Puyo totaled a 221 in the tournament for her tie for 37th.  Steffi Kirchmayr tied for 61st with a 227 and tied for 83rd was Leigh Whittaker with a 233.  Emily Rapp competed in today's round and posted a 74, but was not included in the team total since she withdrew in the second round.  Courtney Brink withdrew in the third round and did not turn in a score.

 

The Cougars are next in action April 3-5 when they compete at the Bryan National Intercollegiate in Greensboro, N.C.

 

 

 

ASU Women's Golf Sixth at NIU Snowbird Intercollegiate

 

TAMPA, Fla. - Kerri Dice shot a day-two 78 and tied for 28th at the NIU Snowbird Invitational.

 

Mary Kate Bowman and Amy Harris also shot a 161 to tie for 28th. DeBrooke Hart finished right behind with a 162 while Jordan Kreuter finished with a 163.

 

Kreuter shot a team-high 76 on Friday while Harris shot a career-best 77 to finish the tournament on Saturday.
