SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Furman senior Bo Ladyman has been named Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches from March 2-8, the conference office announced Wednesday. Ladyman was 3-0 in singles play last week and posted a 3-0 mark in doubles action as well. The Player of the Week award is voted on by the league’s sports information directors.
The Paladins went 2-1 last week posting wins over Yale (6-1) and Army (7-0), while falling at Princeton (4-3). Ladyman earned three straight-set wins last week, downing Yale’s Michael Caldwell (7-6, 6-4) and George Carpeni (6-2, 6-4) at No. 2 singles. Ladyman’s win against over Caldwell help Furman coach Paul Scarpa earn an NCAA-record 820th career victory, surpassing former University of Hawaii coach Jim Schwitters.
Ladyman moved up to No. 1 singles against Army and defeated Phil Muhawi (7-5, 6-1) to improve his singles record to 9-5 this season. He teamed with Jordan Walters to pick up wins in all three doubles matches last week. Ladyman and Walters are now 9-3 on the season in doubles play.
Also nominated for this week’s award was Elon’s Oscar Podlewski, Georgia Southern’s Joris De Weerdt, UNC Greensboro’s Orcun Seyrek, Samford’s Carson Kadi and Wofford’s Danny Manlow.
